Regional Manager

To manage, develop and grow a regional portfolio consisting of a team of business development managers and support staff with a designated panel of intermediaries. Develop and execute a regional operating plan that is aligned with the company’s growth and profit objectives by securing significant new business market share, supporting key distribution channels, retaining existing business and managing company resources.

Job Requirements: 

 Produce a comprehensive business development plan that reflects opportunities and targets for region
 Ensure that technical and operational underwriting procedures and standards are adhered to
 Create highly visible local management presence within the broker market
 Manage team against agreed company performance standards and ensure appropriate performance expectations and support is provided to team
 Facilitate decision-making on complex or above mandate risk acceptance or claims decisions on behalf of intermediaries and team
 Translate company growth and profit ambitions into regional strategy and develop and communicate tactical plan to achieve objectives
 Monitor, analyse and report on key business drivers and take appropriate corrective actions to ensure performance targets are met
 Identify new market opportunities and facilitate intermediary on-boarding by leading negotiations and decision-making for the region
 Represent region on distribution management committee and provide local insights and steer on product, process, system and other operational requirements to facilitate ease of doing business
 Recommend solutions to resolve escalations
 Decisions around policy maintenance and endorsements within mandate
 Decisions regarding risk acceptance of policies within mandate
 Make decisions regarding pricing within mandate
 Ex-gratia claims decision within mandate
 Recruitment of staff within job profile specifications

Requirements include:

Qualifications & Experience

Qualifications:

 Matric (Essential)
 Short-term insurance FAIS - Minimum credits as required for commercial and personal lines (Essential)
 RE 5 representative (Essential)
 BCom or similar (Essential)
 AIISA/FIISA or similar (Advantageous)

Experience:

 Minimum of 10 years in the short-term insurance industry within a similar role
 10 Years broker servicing in a short-term insurance environment (Essential)
 10 Years short-term insurance underwriting exposure (Essential)
 5 Years exposure of short-term insurance claims (Advantageous)
 Knowledge:
 Understanding of the Short term insurance industry across all lines (Advanced)
 Short term insurance technical policy wordings across all line (Advanced)
 Risk Management (Advanced)
 Understanding of Broker community (Advanced)
