Sassa Grants Can Be Paid Into Accounts At Any Bank

Sassa cards

People who receive social grants from SASSA have been reminded that these payments can be made into accounts at any bank.  The beneficiaries don't have to use the new Postbank black cards that SASSA has been converting to over recent months.

Members of parliament were at pains to remind beneficiaries —who have not yet migrated to the new Postbank black cards—to open accounts with a bank of their choice in order to continue receiving their social grants without disruption.

This comes after the Portfolio Committee on Social Development expressed concern about recent changes to the SASSA card migration process, which have negatively affected thousands of grant recipients. The transition to the Postbank black card was suspended indefinitely due to an instruction issued by the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) to Postbank.

SASSA Gold Card Still Active for Grant Payments

To avoid disruption in grant payments, SARB, in consultation with SASSA, has advised that beneficiaries who still have SASSA gold cards can continue using them to access their grants. Beneficiaries are also encouraged to consider switching to a commercial bank of their choice to ensure long-term stability in receiving payments.

Concerns Over Postbank Black Card Suspension

Committee Chairperson Ms Bridget Masango highlighted that the indefinite suspension of issuing Postbank black cards poses a serious challenge to beneficiaries still waiting for their new cards. She emphasized the importance of ensuring that beneficiaries are reassured their gold cards will remain functional and that there will be no delays in social grant payments.

“While we understand the complexities that surround this process, it is important to ensure that assurance is given to beneficiaries that there will be no disruptions in their use of the gold card and that they will receive their monies,” Masango stated.

Committee Monitoring the Situation

The Portfolio Committee on Social Development confirmed it will closely monitor the migration process to ensure that no SASSA beneficiaries are disadvantaged by the suspension of the black card rollout.

What Should SASSA Beneficiaries Do Now?
