Evaluate yourself

You need to size yourself up first.

Look at your strengths, weaknesses, qualifications, skills and experience. Be honest with yourself about your shortcomings and think about how you can improve or grow in weak areas.

"It's important to evaluate your own opinion of your performance." Before you can progress you need to have a clear concept of your value as an employee.

Assess your Competitors

The competition for employment is extremely high and it is necessary to understand what you are up against.

To really benefit from this step you will need to put your pride aside. Ask yourself how your competitors assets are superior to yours. "What do they do well."

"Evaluating your opponents gives you a competitive edge above your peers."

Create a goal-setting plan

Be clear about what you want out of your career. For example what will your role at the company look like in the next couples of years?

"Commit to what you are writing down."

Give yourself time to accomplish your goals. "Wishful thinking is not goal-setting." So be realistic about what it would take to achieve your goals.

Take action

Once you have a plan begin to action it immediately. Celebrate any advancement even if it is small this will motivate you to continue moving forward.
