Academic Programme Coordinator: Diploma Grade R

Academic coordination of the development and delivery of a new Diploma in Grade R Teaching. This is a new formal NQF Level 6 qualification.

Core functions:
• Coordinate the development, review and implementation of Teaching and Learning materials for the Diploma in Grade R Teaching.
• Coordinate the placement, support and assessment of Work Integrated Learning that forms part of this qualification.
• Review and implement Teaching Learning and Assessment Policies and Procedures for this qualification.
• Coordinate Teaching and Learning activities and chair Diploma Grade R committee meetings.
• Coordinate Teaching and Learning Assessment.
• Work closely with the Academic Head, Programme Co-ordinators and support staff to support and advise on all matters regarding the development and delivery of the programme.
• Coordinate training and development for academics, facilitators and mentors.
• Ensure that Academic staff are conversant with and implement appropriate methods of curriculum delivery, including the use of new technologies and assist in sharing of good practice within a higher education landscape.
• Actively promote the development and implementation of innovation in teaching, learning and student experience.

Skills and competencies:
• Familiar with the blended and online pedagogies.
• Familiar with the Teaching and Learning criterions of the Council of Higher Education.
• Possesses a working knowledge of SA higher education and regulatory landscape.
• Excellent communication skills: verbal, written and reporting skills.
• Must be able to work within pre-determined timeframes and deadlines.
• Must be able to communicate confidently and demonstrate professionalism.
• Must be a collegial team player.
• Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, email and Internet).
• Demonstrate a high level of organisational skills, work ethic and confidentiality.
• Be able to work during weekends when required.

Education:
• A Masters’ degree in a relevant discipline of Education (e.g. Foundation Phase Teaching, Early Childhood Education)
• NQF level 6 qualification in Education – preferable in Foundation Phase teaching.

Work Experience:
Management of the Foundation Phase (including Grade R) department at school level, tertiary level or provincial Department of Basic Education level.
Demonstrable experience in curriculum design and programme development at higher education level.
Experience in the coordination or management of Work Integrated learning (WIL) (Practical teaching as part of a teachers’ qualification.
Demonstrable experience in general organising and coordination of academic staff, mentoring and motivating staff in the development and delivery of a new programme.
This position is suitable for a retired academic with the relevant qualifications and experience.
