Established in 1973, Jazzart Dance Theatre is acknowledged as one of South Africa’s leading contemporary
dance theatre companies that continues to exert a powerful influence on the development of dance in
South Africa.
The Jazzart methodology ensures that a strong technique is matched with a uniquely South African dance
philosophy that is rooted in the diversity of the culture and traditions of our country. Its prodigious creative
and critical output allows it to use dance as a transformative tool and to fully interrogate social awareness
and cultural inclusiveness – thus embodying the transformative principles and values of South Africa’s Bill
of Rights.
Jazzart Dance Theatre is calling for expressions of interest from suitably qualified and skilled practitioners
for the position of Artistic Director to lead the organization’s on-going contribution to dance.

Job Requirements: 

Applicant requirements
The ideal applicant should meet the following requirements:
• An appropriate tertiary qualification and/or experience in the dance industry
• A national and international reputation and an extensive record of quality dance training and
productions, or the demonstrable potential to build such a reputation
• Comprehensive knowledge of the national and international dance industry
• Hands-on experience in implementing and overseeing the training programme, outreach programme
and productions
• Proven ability and a demonstrable track record in leading and working with teams in a consultative
manner within a training and production context
• Decision-making capabilities that balance artistic aims with financial plans and funding challenges
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills
• Proficient organisational skills, project and budget management
• Demonstrable experience in building and maintaining relationships with funders, artistic partners,
community leaders and other stakeholders
• Must be residing in Cape Town during the period of engagement
