ASSESSOR - PRETORIA

The International Hotel School is looking for an experienced Assessor with the required qualifications to join the Team at their new Pretoria Campus in January 2018.

PURPOSE:

The Assessor is responsible for the orientation of students and Trainees to National Qualification and City & Guilds qualification requirements and the school’s assessment process. Assessment is conducted in line with a consistent set of criteria agreed by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and City & Guilds and in line with the school’s Quality Management System regarding National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and City & Guilds aligned training and qualifications. The Assessor is responsible for all administrative duties relating to such training and qualifications with the exception of uploading learner achievements to the CATHSSETA and City & Guilds databases.

Key Outputs:

1. Training and Assessment of National Qualifications and City & Guilds qualifications (FET Level) This includes:
1.1 Briefing and advising students / Trainees on the school’s assessment process;
1.2 Orientation of students on National and City & Guilds qualification requirements;
1.3 Plan and communicate the assessment process to students / Trainees;
1.4 Agree a learning plan with each student / Trainee
1.5 Conduct student / Trainee training and coaching both in the workplace and in the classroom;
1.6 Conduct student / Trainee assessments;
1.7 Identify special needs of students regarding disability status, cultural differences, and literacy level;
1.8 Select appropriate assessment processes and use assessment instruments appropriate to the process.
1.9 Accurately record the assessment process and outcomes according to procedures;
1.10 Provide feedback to students / Trainees and appropriate parties;
1.11 Review the assessment process;
1.12 Make recommendations with regards to the awarding of competence in applicable unit standards according to the school’s procedures;
1.13 In the event of an appeal process, provide appropriate input;
1.14 Co-ordinate and monitor the work of the workplace evidence gatherers and ensure that documentation is completed according to the school’s procedures.
1.15 Ensure the security and integrity of student / Trainee files and Portfolios of Evidence.

2. Monitor the student / Trainee workplace experience and give feedback where relevant to the student / Trainee and / or school management and / or property management;

3. Actively promote the retention of students/Trainees through the swift identification of problems, followed by mentoring/guidance as to possible solutions;

4. Provide training and / or lecturing as per the operational requirements of the school;

5. Submit required reports to Managing Executive and / or National Traineeship Co-ordinator

6. Assist with the development and annual review of workbooks and assessment documentation

7. Assist with the development and annual review of City & Guilds workbooks and assessment documentation

8. Attendance of verification visits at all campuses by Quality Assurance authorities (CATHSSETA, C&G, ETDP-SETA).

PERFORMANCE AREAS

1.Effectively manage learning so as to meet or exceed the company agreed pass rates in the subjects being taught in the semester preceding this evaluation. (30% weighting)
Resulting in student achievement as follows:
3 year Traineeship: all subjects: 80% of students met requirements
year Traineeships: all subjects: 90% of students met requirements
2. Achieve a minimum of 70% student satisfaction rating (averaged over the two terms preceding the evaluation). (20% weighting)
3. Provide evidence of counselling and detailed action plans for each student designated as "at risk" over the previous semester. (15% weighting)
4.Effectively complete all administrative tasks (academic and other) within the agreed timelines. (20% weighting)
5. Meet with all trainees and property management at least once every three weeks. (15% weighting)

Job Requirements:

Essential Requirements:

1.A minimum of five years relevant occupational experience
2.Must have a relevant occupational qualification
3.Must have been deemed competent and certified for the generic assessor unit standard Conduct Outcome-based Assessment, SAQA ID 115753 or appropriate alternative
4.Have at least 3 years industrial training and development experience
5.Have at least 2 years assessment experience
6.Have an understanding of South African Further Education and Training legislation
7.An appreciation of the hospitality/ food service industry
8.Good presentation skills
9.A self motivated individual with initiative
10.An ability to plan work effectively and perform under pressure
11.Competence in MS Office suite, an appreciation of social networking and multimedia presentation development.
12. A high degree of integrity
