Designated Firearms Officer - Durban


The above mentioned position is vacant at Isidingo Security Services, Head Office in Durban. The Appointee will report directly to the General Manager – National Operations. The overall purpose of this position is to manage the firearms and all related processes within the Group.

Key Performance Areas: (not totally inclusive):

• Manage all firearm related matters within the Group
• Liaise with the different Isidingo branches in terms of compliance of firearms
• Conduct firearm audits and inspections on various sites and branches nationally
• Quality control and act as an intermediary for all firearm related matters within the Group
• Personnel management and ensure high levels of training and compliance to the FAC 60 of 2000
• Interact with suppliers to ensure equipment is serviced and repaired timeously
• Ensure that contractual requirements are met as stipulated by the Client in terms of firearms
• Submit Weekly / Monthly/ Quarterly reports as required by Management
• Partake in investigations when required
• Liaise with the SAPS DFO’s in the various areas and regions to ensure compliance

Job Requirements: 

• Matric/ Grade 12
• Grade A PSIRA registered
• Hold a Valid Firearm Competency Certificate in at least the following categories:
o Handle and Use of a Handgun – SAQA Unit Standard - 119649
o Handle and Use of a Handgun for Business Purposes – SAQA Unit Standard - 123515
o Handle and Use of a Rifle or Self-Loading Carbine – SAQA Unit Standard - 119650
o Handle and Use of a Rifle or Self-Loading Carbine for Business Purposes – SAQA Unit Standard -123511
o Handle and Use a Shotgun – SAQA Unit Standard - 119652
o Handle and Use a Shotgun for Business Purposes – SAQA Unit Standard – 123514
• Hold a Certificate in Demonstrating knowledge in the Firearms Control Act 2000 (Act 60 of 2000) applicable to possessing a Firearm - SAQA Unit Standard - 117705
• Knowledge in dealing with SAPS Firearms division
• Knowledge in the administration of firearm related documents, applications, new, renewals, registers and reports
• Formal management training with at least 5 years’ experience in the Private Security industry
• Strong planning, leadership, organisational skills as well as good interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Word, PowerPoint and Excel is essential
• Ability to work without supervision, under pressure and meet strict deadlines
