Exhibition Intern x2
(12 Months Contract)

The above mentioned position is available in the Heritage department at Robben- Island Museum. The purpose of the job is sharing with the Museum Visitors about the exhibition/s on display in order to enhance visitor experience

General Duties:

• Assisting in the creative development of the new exhibition;
• Ensuring that all audio-visual stations are operating optimally (special training will be given for operating the TV and Media players);
• Making sure all exhibitions items are in good condition and are properly displayed at all times;
• Working with the cleaning staff (or appropriate department) to ensure the cleanliness of exhibition spaces;
• Working with security to ensure the safety of artefacts’ and special objects.
Requirements:

• Post school qualifications in Art/Theatre or a Degree or Diploma in Heritage/ Communications Studies/ Tour-Guiding;
• Knowledge and experience of exhibitions;
• Knowledge and experience of galleries;
• Knowledge and experience of Heritage institutions/spaces;
• Knowledge of and interest in the South African Liberation Heritage;
• Fluency in English and other languages (Xhosa, Afrikaans, French and so on)
• Good oral and written communication skills;
• A good listener (empathetic and able to embody the values of the museum);
• Ability to read and internalise a lot of information and share;
• Team dynamics;
• Problems solving skills;
• Excellent organising skills.
