General Manager (Road Freight/ Transport/ Logistics)

Our client in Cape Town is looking to appoint a General Manager w ith solid experience in the Road Freight industry.

Qualifications & Experience:

Grade 12. An applicable tertiary qualification will be an advantage
At least 5 years' operational experience at middle management level in a road freight company.
Experience of the transportation of temperature controlled products an advantage
Working knowledge of relevant legislations (such as the Road Traffic Act, LRA and the relevant Bargaining Council Agreement).

Responsibilities:

Asset Management (Ensure that vehicles physically meet standards and that all assets are optimally utilized).
Financial Management and Administration (Budgeting and cost control; Achieve budgeted Revenue and Profit targets; Ensure that the cluster complies with all relevant financial processes and control procedures; Prepare annual budgets in conjunction with line managers, etc.).
Human capital management in areas of responsibility.
Deliver the EE targets.
Customer Service (Establish and maintain sound relationships with customers and ensure that the business unit meet and achieve the requirements of the relevant SLA's, meet and exceed the external and internal customer's expectations, etc.).
Ensure that the business unit and depot comply with environmental and occupational health and safety standards and legal requirements.
Good verbal and written communication skills and proven ability to communicate at all levels with customers, management and employees
Customer service skills and experience of Service Level Agreements.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Goal orientated a sense of urgency, good time management and the ability to work independently.
The ability to pay attention to detail, to be innovative and to solve problems.
Computer literate (Outlook/Excel/Word/Database). Experience of computerised Transport Management Systems will be an advantage.
Experience in a unionised environment and the ability to chair disciplinary hearings, facilitate meetings and conduct interviews.
Willingness to travel.
