TEACHING AND LEARNING ACADEMIC MANAGER - DURBAN

CORE FUNCTIONS
• Development, Review and Implementation of Teaching and Learning strategy
• Familiar with the pedagogy in Distance Higher Education
• Familiar with the Teaching and Learning criterions of the Council of Higher Education (CHE)
• Review and Implement T & L Policies and Procedures
• Manage Teaching and Learning activities across the various regions, develop department calendar and chair committee meetings
• Review of academic documents in relation to assessments a
• Analysing programme reports per semester
• Implementation of a communication/feedback plan for students
• Work closely with the Programme, Programme coordinators, Academic Managers as well as regional representatives to support and advise on all matters regarding teaching, learning and
the student experience to develop and maintain the academic unit’s reputation for excellence
• Manage and coordinate online lectures; timetable, delivery of online lectures and compiling of resources such as lecture recordings resources, toolboxes across programmes and survey tool boxes
• Identify and coordinate training and development for academics
• Support and encourage learning innovation
• Ensure that all programmes teams are conversant with and implement appropriate methods of
curriculum delivery, including the use of new technologies and assist in sharing of good practice within and higher education landscape
• Play a lead role overseeing the quality of the academic programmes.
• Actively promote the development and implementation of innovation in teaching, learning and student experience
• LMS:
• Work closely with the IT Department in the implementation of an LMS
• Champion the use of ICT in learning.
• Implement and provide training for suitable educational technologies
• Providing reporting on Teaching and Learning on a monthly basis

Job Requirements: 

QUALIFICATION (S)
• Relevant Masters degree

EXPERIENCE
• 2 years’ relevant teaching and learning experience

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
• Understanding of teacher education programmes
• Be familiar with Distance and electronically mediated teaching and learning
• Possess working knowledge of SA higher education and regulatory landscape
• Excellent communication skills: verbal, written and reporting skills
• Must be able to work within pre-determined time frames and deadlines
• Must be able to speak confidently and demonstrate professionalism
• Must be a collegial team player
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Access, Internet and Email)
• Proficient in Email etiquette
• Possess a high level of organizational skills, work ethic and confidentiality

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Be able to work during weekends when requested
