BI Developer

Purpose of the job

This position will be responsible for reviewing current Business Intelligence (BI) architecture, providing strategic and technical solution recommendations, participating in the creation and ongoing updates to the BI strategy roadmap, translating requirements into reporting solutions, user acceptance testing and subject matter expert training in order to deliver effective reporting solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and functional development of reporting solutions and data analysis using:
    • Microsoft SQL programming
    • SQL Server Reporting Services
    • Advanced Excel
    • PowerPivot for Excel
  • Obtain a good understanding of the Business Intelligence, Management Information and reporting needs of the Firm
  • Obtain a good understanding of Firm’s databases
  • Develop standard reports and functional dashboards based on the Firms requirements
  • Experience connecting to various Data Sources including text, excel and SQL Databases
  • Develop business intelligence models that can be used to generate both standard and ad-hoc reports
  • Ensure BI environment is optimized to address business requirements by diagnosing and repairing user and performance issues, and testing, monitoring and tuning software
  • Ensure integrity and accuracy of information
  • Liaise with system owners in order to resolve system issues around bad data governance
  • Provide overall guidance for data quality
  • Identify and resolve data reporting issues in a timely manner
  • Perform quality assurance checks on new or enhanced reports
  • Recommend improvements to provide optimum reporting solutions
  • Stay updated with business operations and business intelligence processes
  • Work closely with the Software Development Manager and other members of the IT team
  • Communicate with the Software Development Manager with efficiency and accuracy on any issues, progress and /or delays

 Qualifications and Experience

  • Matric or equivalent qualification
  • Relevant Degree or National Diploma
  • 3 years minimum experience with requirements/process analysis, conceptual and detailed design, BI report development, testing, training, change management, and support methodologies
  • 3 years minimum experience in SQL Programming and Advanced Excel
  • A strong financial background with experience having worked on financial systems
  • Familiarity with software development methodologies
  • Experience delivering and/or authoring technical training
