DC Manager

Job Summary:

To manage and ensure the effective, efficient distribution co-ordination within the Distribution Centre to achieve organisational and client objectives.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables:

Effective stock management

  • Monitor stock levels in DC
  • Check quality continuously and respond to poor quality or damage
  • Check quantities of promotional stock needed and ordered
  • Check promotional stock availability and give timely feedback to ensure stock availability
  • Check and ensure inter-branching of stock has been communicated and inform relevant parties
  • Check expiry dates on stock and ensure stock rotation is taking place
  • Conduct spot checks to ensure that the Ti’s and HI’s of the pallets are correct

Effective administration

  • Check critical lists, highlight OOS and communicate to relevant parties using correct process and documentation
  • Draw reports on short deliveries and communicate to relevant parties
  • Provide feedback on transport company discrepancies to relevant stakeholders
  • Ensure turnaround times are monitored
  • Book delivery bays
  • Check stock quantities are correctly received against order quantities
  • Keep promotional activity schedules
  • Keep track of low stock levels
  • Keep track of new listings and discontinued lines
  • Check deals in the system and communicate any discrepancies immediately
  • Utilise all available customer reports

Effective execution of DC co-ordination

  • Check that quantities of stock ordered by stores correspond with ROS and are correctly dispatched to stores
  • Draw sales figures and compare to established order patterns and predict possible problems
  • Manage stock levels for replenishment by stores
  • Manage discontinued lines and slow movers
  • Manage new stock listings and allocation to stores
  • Manage inter-branching on supplier products
  • Communicate with operations staff on concerns and with NAMs on discrepancies of stock within DC
  • Communicate with stock controllers on ordering and monitor continually
  • Communicate with DC management regarding delivery schedules
  • Communicate and handle special requests as to short delivered stock or promotional stock problems
  • Monitor all promotional lines for duration of promotional deal period
  • Advise stock controller of all OOS and short deliveries and order adequate stocks
  • Advise on deals in system and ensure adequate ordering to prevent running OOS in the deal period
  • Advise stock controller of deals that will be coming to an end to ensure proactive ordering of more stock
  • Advise stock controller of discontinued lines to ensure running down on stock to prevent uplifts
  • Monitor claims and claims procedure
  • Attend relevant DC management meetings (as and when required)

Customer and client satisfaction

  • Keep in contact with NAM’s with any issues that may arise
  • Monitor all stock movement to the customer and resolve queries
  • Keep track of all promotional activity and communicate timeously
  • Monitor the stock controller to manage order quantities
  • Make suggestions on any problems experienced in the DC to the customer to ensure more efficient flow of operations
  • Advise the relevant stockholders of any discrepancy of promotional timings, pricing and allocated order quantities to ensure effective problem solving
  • Interact regularly with the field force in the trade and make suggestions and proposals on operational issues in the trade

Job requirements: 

Minimum Qualifications:                           

Relevant Diploma/Degree at NQF level 6 or 7

Minimum Experience:

4 to 5 years FMCG operations experience, 1+ year supervisory experience
