SHEQ Specialist (Quality and Laboratories)

Evaluate existing Quality Management and Assurance Systems, identify needs and implement, audit and continually improve various Quality Management and Assurance initiatives which will assist the sites to support of our objective to achieve Zero Harm.


  • On an integrated approach, through inclusion of stakeholders and clients, evaluate and report on Quality Management (M) and Assurance (A) compliance within the Group through effective use of the SHEQ Systems (Integrated Management System (IMS), Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and Manufacturing Execution System (MES)).
  • Utilise the SHEQ Systems to initiate, record, investigate, analyse, direct and report on the Group’s Quality M&A status.


Consultation and Support:

  • Ensure an enabling climate/culture
  • Develop line of report to achieve labour stability by minimising labour turnover or placement through compliance to legislative requirement and subordinate development
  • Manage performance against set targets and competencies
  • Ensure subordinate IDP’s are linked to performance results and implemented as per plan
  • Conduct career discussions and implement actions with all identified talent (quart.)
  • Ensure discipline is maintained
  • Coach and counsel subordinates to ensure improved performance levels
  • Build working relationship with sites (clients)


Customer Relations:

  • Maintain and improve relationships with key stakeholders
  • Conduct Laboratory Processes and Activity Audits and Final Product handling Audits.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance and Management Internal audits (based on the ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17025:2017 Standard)
  • Participate in SHEQ KPI audits and evaluate to action customer satisfaction surveys
  • Participate in audits as directed

 Suppliers Relations:

  • Audit suppliers as directed
  • Maintain and improve relationships with Group key suppliers


Business Development:

  • Identify cost savings opportunities through researching and benchmarking exercises
  • Investigate opportunities to minimise/utilise waste (Reduce/Reuse/Recycle)


  • Evaluate and determine needs for Continual Improvement in the implemented integrated Group SHEQ Systems against international standards (ISO 9001:2015 & ISO 14001:2015, ISO 17025:2017 and ISO 45001:2017)
  • Identify opportunities for standardisation
  • Oversee implementation of Quality M&A improvement initiatives
  • Improve Quality Awareness throughout the Group
  • Coordinate Group Quality Forums

Q M & A Projects:

Project Initiation:

  • Contribute to project initiation, scope definition and scope change control
  • Participate in the estimation and preparation of cost budget for a project or sub project and monitor and control actual cost against budget
  • Contribute to identification and the management of project risk within own field of expertise

Project Planning:

  • Plan, organise and support project meetings and workshops
  • Schedule project activities to facilitate effective project execution

Project Management:

  • Supervise a project team of technical/business/small projects to deliver project objectives
  • Identify, suggest and implement corrective actions to improve quality of project work
  • Provide assistance in implementing and assuring project work meets quality requirements

Project Administration:

  • Implement project administration processes according to requirements
  • Conduct project documentation management to support project processes


  • Research and benchmark alternative analytical test methods, technologies and equipment
  • Standardise Quality Standards for the calibration of equipment throughout the group
  • Standardise work processes throughout the Group Laboratories
  • Monitor Production, Raw Materials and Finished Product Quality trends and identify opportunities for improvements
  • Identify opportunities for group wide Continuous Improvement projects


Business Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for improvements and make recommendations
  • Identify Value Chain Optimisation opportunities
  • Manage Value Chain Optimisation projects

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the location and type of Samancor Cr Mineral Resources in terms of dealing with Laboratory activities and final products
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the status of Samancor Cr resources and the value chain
  • Demonstrate full knowledge and understanding of ISO 14001:2015
  • Demonstrate full knowledge and understanding of ISO 9001:2015
  • Demonstrate full knowledge and understanding of ISO 17025:2017
  • Demonstrate full knowledge and understanding of ISO 45001:2017

Job requirements: 

Minimum Requirements:

  • N.Dip. Analytical Chemistry or any related diploma qualification
  • 5+ years of experience in developing and maintaining a Quality Control system (Preferably Laboratory)

Additional Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and Understanding of ISO 17025:2017 requirements and accredited ISO 17025 auditor training
  • ISO 9001:2015 standard auditor training
  • 5 Years in a Quality Management and Assurance Field
  • Experience in Logistics will be advantageous
  • Sig Sigma Black Belt will be advantageous
  • Q M&A experience in the production field will be advantageous
