  1. Summary of Duties:

Assessment and diagnosis (where appropriate) of psychiatric disorders plus to formulate and administer programmes of therapy to reduce distress and increase patient functionality. In addition to work with families and measure outcomes of treatment to ensure they meet the needs of the patient.

Detailed Responsibilities: 

  1. Conducting group therapy sessions as needed.
  • Conducting individual and family therapy sessions as needed.
  • Administering screening instruments and assessments when needed.
  • Management of individual cases.
  • Accurate and ethical billing according to budgetary and funders’ requirements.
  • Attending ward rounds and providing feedback regarding the patients’ treatment.
  • Fulfilling administrative requirements in line with HPCSA regulations. 
  • Fulfilling administrative duties for COPE as required for the smooth running of the units.
  • Working as part of the multidisciplinary team, including with the psychiatrists, and liaising with other professionals as necessary.
  • Assisting with and covering the duties of other COPE team members as required.
  • Taking supervision and engaging in regular training to ensure best practice.
  • Maintaining registration with the HPCSA and BHF and ensuring CPD requirements are met.

  • Qualifications:
  • Masters level degree in psychology with HPCSA and BHF registration

    1. Skills:
    1. Diagnostic skills – thorough knowledge of the DSM 5 and an ability to apply this knowledge to patient assessment and understanding
  • Ability to design therapy programmes based on psychiatric diagnosis
  • Ability to implement therapy programme on group and individual basis
  • Record-keeping in line with legal requirements
  • Professional communication within the multidisciplinary team
  • Experience with Microsoft Office

  • To actively support and engage in Clinical Quality Project activities and initiatives
