Job Description

The Senior Software Engineer specialising in Backend and Integration is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust backend systems and integration solutions within the banking and finance sector. This role requires expertise in building scalable, secure, and high-performance applications that support critical business functions. The successful candidate collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of internal and external systems, adhering to industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement backend services and APIs to support banking applications and integration requirements.
• Develop and maintain integration solutions between internal systems and third-party platforms, ensuring secure and efficient data exchange.
• Collaborate with architects, product owners, and business analysts to understand requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
• Write clean, well-documented, and maintainable code following best practises and coding standards.
• Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers to maintain code quality and consistency.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, security vulnerabilities, and other technical issues.
• Develop automated tests and participate in continuous integration and deployment processes.
• Support incident management and problem resolution for backend and integration components.
• Stay informed of emerging technologies, tools, and industry trends relevant to backend development and systems integration.
• Ensure compliance with banking regulations, data protection standards, and internal governance policies.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or a related field.
• Proven experience as a software engineer focusing on backend development and systems integration within the banking or finance sector.

Required Skills and Experience

• Java 17+ and Spring Boot preferred, with equivalent .NET experience acceptable where the vendor can demonstrate comparable enterprise capability; REST API design, OpenAPI/Swagger, API gateway integration, OAuth2/OIDC, RBAC, SFTP integration, SWIFT integration patterns, workflow automation, event-driven integration, CI/CD, secure coding, observability and container platforms such as OpenShift or Kubernetes

Knowledge and Skills

• Strong proficiency in backend programming languages such as Java, C#, or Python.
• Expertise in RESTful API design and development.
• Experience with message brokers, queues, and event-driven architecture (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Knowledge of database technologies including relational databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server) and NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms and services (e.g., AWS, Azure) is advantageous.
• Strong understanding of security principles, encryption, and data privacy regulations.
• Experience with version control systems such as Git.
• Ability to write and maintain technical documentation.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
